TAE Gallery: artwork, photography, poetry, songs, and book arts

Beyond Words

A look beyond words to something deeper
That lies hidden in clarity revealed
By the obvious—mourning doves concealed
In furrowed dust, stalk the morning reaper.

Irony of words on slopes no steeper
Than a poet, wandering far afield
Of dreams, can climb—red-tailed hawk, talons steeled
In blurred descent, close on those that keep her.

Pictographs, hieroglyphs, beyond words,
Beyond the broad brush stroke of paint and form
Where poet meets silence—fires glow warm
Against canvas of thought, bats become birds.

Words are clouds on trade winds—above the storm,
Albatross span motionless; sleek, white herds.
