Empty Thoughts

Sitting in a chair an empty thought
Stole silently into my mind,
On fretful worries quietly dined
While easing other cares the day had wrought.

Staring quite vacantly, I sought
A horizon, pleasant and refined,
A place an abstract voyeur might find,
A carefree island warm trade winds caught.

Perhaps a trip to Erin for a draught
Of stout, leaving cares behind,
Singing ballads 'til early morning shined
Upon the foggy, dewy day I sought.

Bzzzzzdt! A mosquito startles my reverie
As suddenly I'm returned to reality.
