Slow

A billion years ago the earth so
Young, revealing every day its slow
Transit in orbit around the sun
As though time's mysteries, just begun
Again, the chimes ringing with each blow.

Little time in life for us to know
What we see above and find below
Our blue planet on its daily run.
    A billion years.

A passing moment, perhaps retro
Thoughts of before life forms ever show
Themselves, then us, playing, having fun
While our earth in travel never done,
Journeys without purpose, no race won.
    A billion years.
