On the Beach
Bare feet slowly walking along beach sand,
Cool, remembering when eons ago
Oceans sent probing waves ashore to sculpt
Landscape from a convulsing, young planet
On edge between what was and yet-to-be.
Toes, dipping into sucking sand to sink
Each foaming wash still ever more deeply
Into living earth, toes, wiggle and pull
Away, laugh and move on. Waves, insistent,
Carry prints away to distant places.
